Getting started

Set up Kampa

About five minutes, once. After that Kampa runs on its own. Not medical advice.

The one idea: Kampa works while you do nothing. You give it permission to read your Apple Health data and you wear your Apple Watch. It notices your tremor, your sleep, how you walk and your medication timing, and looks for patterns across days and weeks.

What you need: an iPhone 11 or newer running iOS 26, and an Apple Watch Series 4 or newer running watchOS 10. The Watch is essential - it is where tremor and dyskinesia are sensed. It does not need to be a recent one.

Steps 1 to 4 are the ones that matter. Everything after them is optional and can wait until you want it. Most steps have a short video if you would rather watch than read.

The four that matter

STEP 1

Set up the Apple Watch app - and pick the more-affected wrist

Tremor sensing runs on the Watch, so this is the step everything else depends on. Install Kampa on the Watch from the Watch app on your iPhone if it is not already there, then open Kampa on the Watch once. Background transfer will not start until the app has been opened at least once.

Then wear the Watch during the day, and overnight if you want sleep tracked.

Wear it on your more-affected side. Kampa senses tremor from one wrist. If the Watch is on your steadier arm, the readings describe that arm - and everything built on top of them describes it too. If both sides are similar, pick either and stay consistent.

STEP 2

Allow Health data

The first time you open Kampa it asks for access to Apple Health. Tap Turn On All, then Allow.

iOS presents these as a long list of individual switches, and it is easy to grant some and miss others. Kampa reads sleep, heart rate, walking measures, workouts and medication times - a missed switch means that part of the picture is quietly absent.

To change it lateriPhone Settings → Apps → Health → Data Access & Devices → Kampa

Worth knowing: for privacy reasons, Apple does not tell an app which health categories were denied - a refused category looks exactly like one with no data in it. So Kampa cannot warn you that something is switched off. If a chart stays empty, this screen is the first place to check.

The Health permission sheet, and what each category feeds.

STEP 3

Turn on Motion & Fitness

This one powers tremor and dyskinesia tracking. Without it there is no motion data at all - not less of it, none - and the tremor chart stays empty however long you wear the Watch.

Kampa asks for it on first run. It is needed on both the iPhone and the Watch.

STEP 4

Turn on iCloud for Kampa

iCloud is how your Kampa data survives a lost or replaced phone. It is a switch in iOS Settings rather than a prompt inside the app, so it is easy to never notice.

Where it livesiPhone Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Saved to iCloud → See All → Kampa

This is the only way to restore your history. If iCloud is off, or your iCloud storage is full, there is no second copy - and nothing will announce that. Worth thirty seconds now rather than finding out later.

STEP 5

Log medications in the Health app

This is the step people find most confusing, and it is worth getting right - medication timing is what most of Kampa's useful patterns are built on.

You log doses in Apple Health, not in Kampa. Apple does not permit other apps to write medication records, so Kampa reads what Health holds rather than keeping its own copy. Set each medication up once, then mark each dose as taken.

Set up a medicationiPhone Health → Browse → Medications → Add a Medication Then, for each doseHealth → Medications → Log, or tap the reminder Health sends you

Kampa picks up your dose times automatically and lines them up against your symptoms. You do not enter anything twice.

Creating a medication in Health, then marking a dose taken.

STEP 6

Log by voice

Typing is not always easy. Anything you can log in Kampa you can say out loud instead - tap the + button, then the microphone, and speak normally: "chai, almonds and a date." Kampa turns that into the entry, and you can correct the text before saving.

The first time you use it, iOS asks for the microphone and for speech recognition, one after the other. Both are needed.

Speaking an entry, and editing it before it saves.

STEP 7

Workouts

There is nothing to do in Kampa. Start a workout on your Apple Watch the way you normally would, using Apple's Workout app, and it reaches Kampa through Health.

People often assume Kampa reads the Watch directly and wonder why a walk did not appear. It arrives via Health, which means the Health permission in step 2 has to include workouts.

Only if it applies to you

STEP 8

Fix duplicate sleep data

If more than one app or device writes sleep to Health - a second watch, or a dedicated sleep app - the same night can be recorded twice, and sleep totals come out wrong.

In KampaSettings → Data sources, and switch off the source you do not want counted

Switching a source off there excludes it everywhere in Kampa, deliberately. Most people never need this screen.

STEP 9

Scan a packaged food

For packaged items you can scan the barcode instead of describing them. Tap + → Food → Scan a package barcode and hold the code in frame - there is no shutter button to press, it captures on its own.

Recognition covers packaged products. Fresh and home-cooked food is better described in words, which Kampa handles well.

What to expect

STEP 10

What your first week looks like

Kampa is quiet at the start, on purpose. It will not offer a pattern it cannot yet support.

"Nothing found" is a real answer. A quiet week, or "no clear pattern yet", is information rather than a failure. Kampa is built to say what it sees and stay silent about what it does not.

What the app shows on day 1, day 3 and week 2.

If something is not working

Nearly everything comes down to one of three things: the Watch app has never been opened, Motion & Fitness is off, or a Health category was missed. Steps 1 to 3 cover all three.

If that does not resolve it, write to us - it reaches us directly, not a queue.

One thing to keep in mind

Kampa is a wellness tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose or treat any condition, and it never tells you to change your medication. Anything it shows you is a starting point for a conversation with your doctor or neurologist, not a substitute for one.
